The Director, SHRM Labs plays a key role in establishing SHRM as a research thought leader and product testbed for technologies impacting the future of work and the workplace. The Director will oversee a new line of business at SHRM, and will be responsible for: (1) establishing education and research functions on the topics of HR Technology and Workplace Technology for SHRM Labs. (2) developing new tools for elevating the practice of HR through technology; (3) evaluating technologies for possible investment and/or incubation by SHRM; (4) conducting research and assessments on behalf of third parties seeking guidance on product viability or insights into the future of work; and (5) defining the future of the workplace through research and other partnerships with technology vendors. SHRM Labs will function as a think tank within SHRM’s Technology & Transformation division, staffed by research and product analysts whose principal mission is defining how automation, artificial intelligence, collaboration, and decision making will define the future of work in the next 10-20 years.

Work Environment:

  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and conference settings and routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • Expected travel is 0-10% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key technical expert in innovation, HR Technology and Workplace technologies.
  • Lead multidisciplinary research on HR Technology and Workplace Technology including market intelligence, vendor information, and client case studies.
  • Manage research and development projects on behalf of SHRM and third parties. Conduct and analyze results of qualitative, quantitative and archival research; generate market-leading reports that will showcase SHRM’s thought leadership in this area.
  • Support a team of learning content developers to build programs, microlearnings, and resources on Workplace Technology for HR Professionals.
  • Lead the development of interactive, digital tools for helping HR Professionals discover and identify Workplace Technology solutions to address their needs.
  • Establish and oversee panels of subject matter experts who serve as evaluators of workplace technology.
  • Develop strategy and execute vision for establishing communities of HR Professionals around HR Technology and Workplace Technology practices.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for technology startups and companies seeking Workplace Innovation Lab services or investment. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in technology, business, or related fields.
  • Eight or more years of experience with at least seven years of experience in HR Technology and/or Workplace Technology.
  • Five years of experience in the field of Human Resources.
  • Experience leading team of research, instructional designers, and learning specialists.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams and projects in a complex organizational environment.

Preferred:

  • Product development experience in the HR Technology or Workplace Technology space.
  • Research experience in the HR Technology or Workplace Technology space.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data analytics and a strong focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • An innovative mindset with a strong interest in staying abreast of innovation strategy and technologies.
  • Strong program evaluation background and product development skills.
  • Strong vendor management skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders; Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with writing and editing skills.
  • Detail oriented and focused on quality assurance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations.
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The hiring range for this position is $127,000 to $165,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
