Analyst, Global Lending Group

As an Analyst in the Global Lending Group, you will work in close partnership with Coverage, Portfolio Management, Syndicate, Leverage Finance, Risk and Wholesale Lending Operations to structure, negotiate and execute all lending activity across CIB Americas. Lending activity will include all bilateral and syndicated transactions, and will range from event-driven loans to core financings and refinancing, Asset Based Lending and Reserve Based Lending. In addition to working with the internal constituents identified above, you will also operate in close partnership with internal Legal and the wider Operations team, who will be accountable at closing for the booking and asset management of the CIB loan portfolio.

What will you be doing?

  • Supporting M&A, ECM, HY, and IG activity through the management of client Reserve Based Loans (RBLs) and other loans in the Natural Resources sector
  • Conducting cash flow analysis of oil and gas reserves for RBLs from Reserve Reports
  • Researching, writing and presenting financial and industry analyses to drive company and portfolio level decisions
  • Attending bank and client meetings when requested and/or as appropriate
  • Assisting on client pitches and help maintain comps for loan transactions
  • Coordinating with Coverage, Product groups, Risk and Portfolio Management to collate and assemble the integrated
  • Approval memo
  • Taking the lead and working with GLG AVPs to gather data from the relevant groups to complete the Approval memo and submitting in standardised format to the Deal team ahead of Committee meetings; GLG is accountable for the integrity and overall quality of the memo
  • Attending internal Committee meetings when requested and/or as appropriate
  • Working closely under the GLG Sector Head’s leadership to assist with reviewing and commenting on commitment letters, term sheets, engagement letters, fee letters (and other early stage documents) to reflect the deal/client requirements consistent with market trends, Firm practices and internal recommendations and approvals
  • Working closely under GLG VP and AVP’s leadership to negotiate with clients (as required) and legal counsel to achieve deal terms reflecting agreed structure and approvals for the transactions and actively participating in relevant deal team discussions, including calls and meetings with Coverage, Lev Fin, DCM, Syndicate, Credit, Legal, Loan Operations at relevant milestones
  • Assisting with the execution and process flow of the transaction, including timely escalation of any issues and designing solutions that ensure commercial risks are adequately covered through various protections in the loan documentation
  • Working closely under GLG VP and AVP’s leadership to assist in liaising with Borrowers, Investors, Credit Risk and Legal
  • Counsel in connection with amendments and modifications to loan transactions; as well as interpreting and reviewing these changes in partnership with Legal Counsel
  • Managing the deal flow pipeline within the Industry Sector and leading the interaction with Loan Operations to provide appropriate handover for booking and monitoring purposes
  • Staying relevant on current loan market, deal terms and conditions, together with other applicable financial market developments
  • Completing KCP/ Amendment templates
  • Collaborating across GLG, sharing market and/or legal developments, best practices and innovative solutions across
  • Lending and wider BI deal teams
  • Following up with coverage on KYC completion
  • Assisting Lev Fin/ DCM with the funds flow to ensure all relevant details are received and all funding requirements are in place for closing
  • Create and remit invoicing to Borrowers for fees due at closing
  • Obtain deal site access for GLG team

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-2 years of experience in corporate banking, investment banking, portfolio management and/or credit risk
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Solid interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication
  • Willingness to work across multiple transactions toward tight deadlines with demanding and complex institutional clients
  • Committed team player with a strong work ethic, “can do” attitude and high intellectual curiosity
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office applications

  • Some experience in the lending process and ability to network effectively both internally and externally, and maintain/develop relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to work with some independency and take full ownership of defined tasks assigned by GLG Sector Heads with respect to the execution of transactions
  • Some experience in reading, interpreting and understanding credit agreements, interacting with legal counsel and/or agent banks
  • Takes ownership of tasks, problems and drives solutions
  • Keen risk awareness, ability to understand and discuss risks associated with transactions they cover
  • Very high level of initiative and self-motivation, driven by desire to exceed expectations
  • Strong interest in the loan market
  • Familiarity with Leveraged Lending Guidelines
