COMPANIES OFFER THEIR EMPLOYEES STRONG BENEFITS AND COST EFFECTIVE INCENTIVES. IT'S IMPORTANT TO EDUCATE YOURSELF ON YOUR PACKAGE SO THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE...IN SICKNESS AND IN HEALTH.

Health insurance is a loaded topic these days. For some, it’s the magic ticket to affording the yearly physical. For others, it’s a politically loaded conversation you wouldn’t dare bring up at holiday dinner. Regardless, chances are you’re not aware of some awesome benefits that your insurance package offers. If your health insurance is through your employer, you likely have access to some pretty cool perks that your employer is already paying for you. So why wouldn’t you take advantage?

A HEALTHIER EMPLOYEE IS A HEALTHIER BOTTOM LINE

Here’s the deal: your company wants you to be the healthiest version of yourself. Healthy employees cost employers less long-term,  meaning your employer saves big bucks when you live a healthy lifestyle. Look into whether your insurance includes visits to a nutritionist, gym membership discounts, or other wellness perks. Some companies also sponsor a points for cash system. For example, if you get cholesterol screening, you earn 50 points. If you get to 100 points, you might get a free gift card. Pretty sweet, huh? You’re likely already doing some of the things that earn points, so check out your benefits website and start cashing in on a healthy lifestyle!

COMPLIMENTARY HEALTH COACHING SERVICES

Wellness providers are big business today, with many companies contracting with external vendors to provide free health coaching services for employees. Whether it’s learning how to quit an unhealthy habit or learning how to shred those few pesky pounds, health coaches are a really great benefit. Some companies even have health coaches in house to train with you over your lunch break. Ask your human resources department if your company offers this kind of benefit, and if not, suggest they start.

HEALTHY FOOD. HEALTHY LIFE.

It’s no surprise that eating healthy food leads to a healthy life. Your employer knows this. That’s why more and more companies are paying employees to eat smart. Healthy eating habits lead to smaller waistlines and smaller premium costs for your company. Some companies now offer discounts on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Others offer a discount on popular weight loss programs. Consider it an update on the age-old adage: an apple a day keeps the boss happy.

THE WHOLE PERSON MATTERS

We all know that living a healthy life means much more than simply exercising or eating well. More than ever, companies are promoting holistic approaches to health—weighing emotional and physical wellness equally. {Click to Tweet} Numerous companies offer coverage for therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists. Some even offer free wellbeing workshops for employees. What’s not to love about that?

EXTRA P.T.O. ENOUGH SAID.

Companies are smart and they know what incentives work for employees. They know that paid time off is one of the most precious resources. That’s why many companies are using it to get their employees up and moving. By participating in a company sponsored run or fitness event, you might qualify for an extra day of P.T.O.  Sign up for that race you’ve always wanted to complete. You’ll achieve a goal and extra P.T.O.—talk about an amazing value proposition!
